Centre’s Teachers’ Day directive to schools unacceptable: Popular Front

New Delhi: Popular Front of India General Secretary OMA Salam in a statement condemned the Centre’s new directive to make arrangements to web cast nationally an interactive session of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is going to address students at Manekshaw Stadium, New Delhi, on the Teachers’ Day. It is strange that Centre has even demanded the attendance report from schools of all the states. Taking a cue from the Centre’s directive even some Congress ruled states Kerala have issued circular to schools for forcing the students to attend the programme. On the day students will have to stay at schools longer than regular days since the programme begins at 3 pm. This undemocratic move is an interference with federal structure of the country. Though Education is on the concurrent list, it is mostly a state responsibility and it is the states that take decisions on such matters. Our children should not subject to this kind of propaganda gimmick to enhance a leader’s personal charism
